SITUATION UPDATE: January 2022

Japan is facing a new wave of Coronavirus that spreads faster. In the last few weeks, 84 percent of new cases were confirmed as Omicron variant. The symptoms are considered milded but spread faster than other variants such as Delta.

It is believed that Tokyo is the worst area hit by this variant, as the numbers of infected doubled in the latest week. The government is currently working on a combined package that allows vaccination and testing at the same time to improve early tracing and detection.
