SITUATION UPDATE: September 2022
According to official data released at the beginning of this month, Indonesia recorded as many as 3,616 new daily Covid-19 cases, mostly found on Java Island. Jakarta Province has contributed to 1,500 confirmed cases, followed by West Java and Banten Provinces, as the combined population in these provinces comprises 27% of the total population in the Country. Since the Covid-19 outbreak in Indonesia in early 2020, these Provinces have been in the top three ranks of confirmed Covid-19 cases.
The Government is now focusing its vaccination program on vulnerable groups, including the elderly, people with disabilities (PWDs), and people with acute health conditions. The Indonesian Government targeted as many as 21 million vulnerable people to receive three doses of Covid-19 vaccines. However, recent data shows that the number of elderlies receiving full vaccination shots is less than 70%. It became one of the Government’s concerns, and communities are encouraged to accompany their elders to health facilities for vaccine shots. The government also aims to accelerate the Program to achieve herd immunity and continue opening up the Country to more visitors. Currently, the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has been given to healthcare workers. Further, Covid-19 clusters were at the schools and affected many students. However, Officials continue to allow offline classes with communities advised to strictly follow new-normal health protocols.
