Hand in Hand India began in a small way in 2002 to fight bonded child labor in the famed silk industry of Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, India. Today, the organisation has expanded thematically & geographically, transforming millions of underprivileged children & poor families across 14 states of India. HiH India focuses on alleviating poverty and job creation through its integrated five ‘pillar’ programs: Health, Child Labor Elimination through Education, Skill Development (women, youth and farmers), Environment – Solid Waste Management, Natural Resource Management, and lastly, Women Empowerment & Micro finance. We also implement an integrated multi-pillar initiative ‘The Village Uplift Program’ (VUP) designed to create self-reliant and resilient communities. To date, HiH India has created 3,597,381 jobs, skilled 138,426 women, enabled 312, 519 vulnerable children enroll into schools, conducted 7,154 medical camps i.e. healthcare to 271,415 villagers, supported 540,831 households to recycle, boosted green initiatives across 123,916 acres, etc. We are a national-award winning Harvard University and TRIUM University Case Study and have the privilege of partnering with UNDP, UNICEF, US Consulate- Chennai, water.org, Lions Club International, several leading corporates, among others. For as little as 140 USD, you can support skill training of one underprivileged woman to become an entrepreneur/ employee, so she can support her family for life!
COVID-19 Response:
Hand in Hand India is seeking support to respond to the COVID-19 crisis through —
- Providing Food Rations and safety kits for 12000 very poor families (below poverty line) in Tamil Nadu State, Gujarat & Maharashtra, India – for survival and safety
- Strengthening Government-run Hospitals across Tamil Nadu with life-saving equipments, sanitation supplies and other essential items (PPEs, masks, etc.)
- Providing key sanitation supplies and protective equipment to sanitary workers who clean streets & collect garbage
