Our Mission
The mission of One Heart Worldwide is to save the lives and promote the well-being of mothers and their newborns in underserved areas of rural Nepal and beyond. They achieve this through locally-led health system strengthening to provide equitable access to quality care for all mothers and newborns.The Need
Mothers and newborns living in remote areas of Nepal are more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth than in urban settings. Barriers to quality care are shortages of well-trained medical providers, health structures in need of medical equipment and repair, and a lack of emergency transport.The Solution
Mothers and newborns living in remote areas of Nepal are more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth than in urban settings. Barriers to quality care are shortages of well-trained medical providers, health structures in need of medical equipment and repair, and a lack of emergency transport.Our Impact
Improved access to quality MNH services by upgrading 472 birthing centers and training 500 Skilled Birth Attendants, 30,000 local partners, and 6,000 healthcare providers to achieve 90% more deliveries by a Skilled Birth Attendant, 68% less maternal deaths, and a 39% decrease in neonatal mortality.One Heart Worldwide is currently in 21 districts, and by 2030 they will expand into 36 districts. The longevity of the program is reliant on the relationships that is built with local partners and government as they work seamlessly to co-create value to benefit the health and well-being of mothers and their babies. Since 2010, One Heart Worldwide have provided access to quality care to 310,000 pregnancies while reducing the cost per pregnancy from over $2,000 to under $50, a 98% decrease.
