Cloud Gate is the name of the oldest known dance in China, a ritual dance of some 5,000 years ago. In 1973, choreographer LIN Hwai-min adopted this classical name for the first contemporary dance company in any Chinese speaking community: Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan. Cloud Gate Culture and Arts Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in 1988 that organizes, oversees, and presents over 200 performances & outreach programs annually for Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan (1973), Cloud Gate 2 (1999), and Cloud Gate Theater (2015). Cloud Gate also conducts scholarship programs for young talents.
